Join us in our efforts to support Autism Speaks!

Our son, Grant, just turned 7 in June. He was diagnosed with Autism in 2004 at age 23 months. Grant had hit all of his developmental milestones until he was 14 months old. We never thought about Autism. He had always been very connected to his family, friends, and pets, so we initially thought he was just a "late talker". From 14 months to 20 months was a confusing period of ups and downs. Grant has had the best intervention we could provide, and yet still is not able to verbally share his thoughts with us.

Organizations like Autism Speaks are increasing awareness in both the general community and the pediatric profession so that parents are educated about developmental "red flags", and pediatricians are more likely to refer children to developmental specialists for evaluation, rather than delay a potential diagnosis for even a short time. Autism Speaks also funds important research of potential genetic and environmental triggers for autism.

Grant has brought so many gifts to our family, and we are so proud of him every day. Still, we hope for a day when there is an understanding of what causes Autism. We also hope for a cure, so that Grant, and so many other families struggling with this disorder, can lead lives without questioning, "What happened?"

Only through commitment and research will we meet this goal. Thank you for supporting Autism Speaks.Your contribution is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Larry, Cindy, Grant(age 7), Devon(age 4), & Scott(age 2) Blasko
